I have never been fully confident about myself in my teenage years; I struggled with my weight, acne and the way I looked. Once I turned 20, my confidence grew. I was in a happy relationship where I was accepted for who I am and starting a new life where I didn't know anyone enabled me to blossom and be more confident. Throughout the past months, I have learnt so much about self-confidence and I wanted to share some things with you.
First of all, do not let your weight or the way you look determine who you are or what you do. I have been annoyed with my weight and looks for a long while as I always knew I wasn't the pretty one in the group but as I got older I realised how crazy that was. This will sound cliche but you are beautiful in your own unique way.
Your body language says a lot about you. Walk confidently with your head high and always have good posture; this will perceive you as a strong and confident. A simple smile can change the whole you.
Dress smart. I don't mean shirts and skirts but always make sure that your clothes are cleaned and ironed. Wearing something casual and comfortable will make you feel so much more comfortable in the environment around you.
It is important that your thought and mindset is positive. I know that it is impossible to be positive 27/7, but try to have a good mindset when possible. Focus more on your strengths rather than your weaknesses. If you make a mistake, evaluate it and learn from it. You have to remember that nobody is perfect. Perfect isn't good.
Stop criticising yourself
Don't be so hard on yourself. If something isn't going your way, do not give up. Take a break and try it again later. Doing something while your stressed will only make you hate yourself even more and you're not worth it. You have to know your worth.
Don't compare yourself to others
This is the worst thing you can do. Do not try and compare yourself to anyone; especially celebrities and media influencers. They only post the good memories on the internet, the normal lives they lead is not for us to see. So be yourself.
"Self-confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings." - Samuel Johnson
Eating healthy and working out can improve your self-confidence. Once you cut out the junk and sugary foods out of your diet and eat healthy, you will feel so much better about yourself.
Thing about all the things you love about yourself. As Blake Lively once said, "The most beautiful thing you can wear is confidence." This quote stuck with me for so long I still go by it everyday. It does not matter what others think of you. If you love yourself, then that's the final step to being self-confident.
I am still not 100% self-confident about myself but I am getting there with a positive mindset and goals. It has taken me until I was 20 to realise how much I am worth and what I can achieve if I put my mind into it. I am not perfect, I still make mistakes but the fun part is that I can learn from them and move forward.
